A Heartfelt Journey: Rediscovering Ireland’s Beauty with Family

As a couple with a small family, our love for travel is rivaled only by our passion for our homeland, Ireland.

Every opportunity we get, we pack our bags and embark on adventures that allow us to explore the stunning landscapes, savor delectable cuisines, and immerse ourselves in the rich culture of this beautiful island. This time, our journey took us on a memorable tour of Ireland, from the vibrant city of Galway to the bustling streets of Dublin, before winding our way back to the serene west coast of County Clare.

On the Road Again

Our adventure began with the nostalgic hum of a vintage 1975 Volkswagen camper, a bright yellow time machine that carried not only our family’s dreams but also our surfboards and snorkeling gear. With the kids excitedly buckled up in the back, we set off from Galway, a city that holds countless cherished memories, towards the heart of Dublin. Along the way, we embraced the breathtaking scenery, the rolling hills, and the quaint villages that dot the Irish countryside.

A Sunny Dublin Interlude

Before we bid farewell to this incredible journey, we made a brief stop at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. The glorious weather, with temperatures soaring to a blissful 25 degrees Celsius, perfectly complemented the iconic tour, making it an unforgettable experience.

Seafood Delight in Liscannor

As we headed out from Dublin towards County Clare’s west coast, we made a pit stop at the award-winning Vaughan’s Seafood Restaurant in Liscannor. With the ocean breeze in the air and the sound of waves crashing against the pier, we indulged in a sumptuous seafood feast that left our taste buds dancing with delight. The kids couldn’t get enough of the fresh catch, and we knew we were in for a memorable culinary journey.

Under the Stars in Lahinch

Our journey continued to the Lahinch campsite, where we traded four walls for a starry ceiling. We spent the evening toasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs with our children, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The beauty of Ireland’s west coast lay before us, and the sense of tranquility under the open sky was simply magical.

Beach Day Bliss

The following day was dedicated to fun and frolic at Lahinch Beach, where we rode the waves, explored the underwater world through snorkeling, and even tried our hand at the iconic Irish sport of hurling. Laughter echoed as we immersed ourselves in the thrill of the beach, enjoying the simple pleasures that the Irish coastline had to offer.

Cliffs of Moher and Doolin Adventures

With the sun as our guide, we embarked on a journey from Lahinch to the majestic Cliffs of Moher. The cycling and walking path led us through breathtaking vistas, and we soaked in the awe-inspiring beauty of the cliffs. Our path eventually led us to Doolin, where we swam at the pier, made friends with an old ship captain who shared tales in native Gaelic, and learned the art of tying fishing nets.

Doolin’s Underwater Gem

Doolin’s waters proved to be a hidden gem for snorkeling enthusiasts. The limestone seabed reflected light, illuminating a world beneath the surface that was teeming with vibrant marine life. We marveled at the intricate dance of shoals of fish and felt a profound connection to the ocean’s mysteries.

A Culinary Treat at Ivy Cottage

After a day filled with adventure, we indulged in a hearty dinner at Ivy Cottage restaurant. Famished from cycling, swimming, and exploring, we relished the delectable seafood, including prawns and mussels, paired with local craft beers. Our appetite satisfied, we couldn’t help but reflect on the memories we had created so far.

Retreat to Doolin’s Charms

The allure of Doolin was impossible to resist, prompting us to spend the night at the charming Doolin Hotel. Nestled in the heart of the village, this boutique hotel offered us a peaceful retreat, ensuring we woke up refreshed and ready for another day of exploration.

Farewell…for now.

Our tour of Ireland’s hidden gems reaffirmed our love for this enchanting land. From the breathtaking cliffs and sandy shores of County Clare to the bustling streets of Dublin, every moment was a testament to the beauty and charm of our homeland. As we reluctantly headed back to Galway, we knew that Clare’s allure had stolen our hearts once again. With memories of adventure, laughter, and the boundless beauty of the Irish landscape, we promised ourselves that this tour would become a cherished annual tradition, a celebration of family, travel, and the spirit of Ireland.
